Quebec 700 mile snowmobile journey      January  2010      Day-1

Started in Shawinigan, Quebec, first leg is a 100-mile night ride to Saint Raymond.

We paid $20/night to have the truck and trailer parked behind a locked gate.

Those experienced with Quebec riding have heard many tales of sled and truck thefts possibly by motorcycle gangs who ship them overseas.

The Quebec hospitality industry has reacted to the security need by providing locked corals at almost every hotel that we stayed at.

We never had a problem...

Starting just before dusk.

We got a bit lost at night and we found two locals who were maintaining their village's ice skating rink.  We did not know French and they did not know English.  They did know where St-Raymond was but not by snowmobile.

The locals were very helpful and through sign language, smiles and a few common words, we were able to find another trail.

The Hotel Roquemont in St-Raymond is a well-known snowmobile hotel with modest rooms, great food, good security and Wi Fi to get these pictures out on a daily basis.

And yes, the sled even carried a netbook PC to process these pictures.

Parked snowmobiles exceeded parked cars by 10:1.
