Quebec 700 mile snowmobile journey      January  2010      Day-4

The next leg was a 200-mile trip through another national park.  Few snowmobiles carry enough gas for a 200 mile trip so a service facility was built at the exact half-way point.

Again, called a "relais".

Note the trail groomer to the rear

Better than a beanbag chair.

This is the Le'Etap service facility in the exact middle of the national park.

100 miles away from... ANYTHING !

Unlike most relais facilities, this location was very well appointed.  Of course, they enjoy 100% of the passing business for both gas and food.

Again, only French is spoken so ordering food was a hoot.

In the states, snowmobile outfits can be made out of most any color, the more garish and loud, the better.

Most of the local Quebec rider's colors came in one style... black.  The only option seems to be black with Ski-Doo yellow trim.

Wearing red in Quebec was as common as arriving at a Hell's Angels convention with lime green leather chaps.

The outfit may look like a space suit.  That observation is not all that far off because it contains your total body environment.  Traveling in the open at 50 MPH in zero degree weather is not a challenge that most ski-wear can tolerate.  The helmet lens, handlebars and thumb throttle lever are all electrically heated.

The only real concern is getting too hot and then sweating.  Opening your suit may be the best practical solution to cool off.
